Then all we ask is that you turn up, on time, for your first day of training 🙂
This course is delivered over 4 days – Starting on a Sunday at 2pm and finishing on the Wednesday at 4pm.
This course is designed to train individuals to become professional self-defence / personal safety / Krav Maga instructors capable of teaching ordinary people how to stay safe in real-world situations. Rather than focusing only on techniques, the course explores how violence actually occurs, how people respond under stress, and how instructors can teach simple, effective self‑protection skills that work under pressure.
Students learn not only how to perform techniques, but how to deliver practical, structured training that helps others develop confidence, awareness and the ability to act decisively when it matters. Graduates of the course leave with the knowledge, structure and credibility required to deliver personal safety, self-defence training & Krav Maga classes & courses responsibly and professionally.
People join this course for many different reasons. For some, it is about helping their local community stay safe. For others, it is about building a new professional pathway or expanding their existing martial arts or coaching work.
Common motivations include teaching personal safety / self-defence / Krav Maga within local communities, running workshops in schools or workplaces, adding practical training to an existing martial arts course, or starting a new career focused on personal safety education. The British Academy of Krav Maga instructor course is designed to provide the skills, confidence and framework needed to achieve these goals.
Why This Course Works ?
Krav Maga as a personal safety system is widely respected as one of the most practical and effective systems in the world. Its effectiveness comes from three core principles: simplicity, realism and speed. Techniques are designed to be simple enough to perform under stress. Training is based on the kinds of attacks that occur in real life rather than sport or competition. The objective is always to deal with danger quickly and create the opportunity to escape safely. The instructor course teaches not only how these principles work, but how to teach them effectively to others.
The course is structured to build a complete understanding of personal safety training over 4 days
Module 1 – The Theory of Self Defence
Understanding how violence occurs, the effects of adrenaline, situational awareness, and the legal framework of self-defence in the United Kingdom.
Module 2 – Core Self Defence / Krav Maga Techniques
Basic striking fundamentals, escapes from common grabs and holds, and practical responses to typical armed assault scenarios & unarmed responses.
Module 3 – Scenario Training
Managing verbal aggression, dealing with close‑range assaults, and understanding the dynamics of unpredictable real-world situations.
Module 4 – Teaching Methodology
How to structure classes, teach beginners safely, build progressive training course and manage groups effectively.
Module 5 – Running Courses
Guidance on delivering workshops, working with schools or organisations, marketing training responsibly and understanding insurance and professional requirements.
This course is designed to be accessible to a wide range of people who are passionate about helping others stay safe. Participants may include martial artists who want to add self-defence training to their teaching, fitness instructors, security professionals, teachers or youth workers, or individuals who want to begin teaching personal safety within their community.
Previous experience is obviously helpful but not essential. What matters most is a genuine interest in learning and teaching practical self-protection skills.
Unlike many short self-defence courses that focus only on physical techniques, this course is built around a broader understanding of how personal protection actually works. Students learn about the psychology of violence, how stress and adrenaline affect decision making, the legal responsibilities surrounding self-defence in the UK, and how to teach awareness, avoidance and escape strategies.
This framework ensures that graduates develop into well‑rounded instructors who understand both the physical and psychological aspects of self-defence.
Effective self-defence instruction is not determined by gender but by knowledge, experience and the ability to teach clearly and responsibly. Violence can come from anyone, and the purpose of training is to prepare people realistically for the situations they may face. Good instructors understand how attacks happen, how people respond under stress, and how to teach practical solutions that work in real-world situations.
The focus of this course is therefore on competence, professionalism and responsible instruction.
If you are interested in helping others stay safe, developing meaningful teaching skills, or building a professional role within the field of personal safety, the British Academy of Krav Maga instructor course provides a structured and credible pathway. Graduates leave with practical skills, a clear teaching framework and the confidence to deliver self-defence training that is realistic, responsible and effective.
The British Academy of Krav Maga was established just after 2001 and has delivered specialist courses and private training since. It is recognised by the British Combat Association as a leading provider of self defence, personal safety & Krav Maga for both students and trainee instructors.
Upon successful completion of the instructor course you will be presented with both a Self Defence Instructor Certificate and a Krav Maga Instructor Certificate. The Krav Maga Certificate will reflect the grade you achieved on the course and you will be able to start teaching regular Krav Maga classes to one grade below the grade that you achieved on the course, whilst the Self Defence Instructor Certificate will be proof that you have the skills to set up your own self defence courses going forward.
We will list advanced training opportunities for you to attend on our website such as Krav Maga Training & Grading Events (for you to attain a higher Krav Maga grade), Specialist Work Shops such as Defences Against Knife Attack, Gun Defence, Ground Fighting In Self Defence & / or other Community Events such as Free Intro Self Defence Courses for Women & Vulnerable Persons & more whilst alternatively you can come to us for private training if you cannot make these events.
The British Academy of Krav Maga does not operate a franchise model and we do not require instructors to pay ongoing licensing or membership fees in order to continue teaching. We also do not require instructors to purchase branded uniforms, equipment packages or marketing materials from us in order to run their classes.
Our approach is simple. Once you have successfully completed the instructor course, you are free to begin teaching using the knowledge and framework you have learned. Many organisations attempt to lock instructors into long-term financial commitments or rigid organisational structures. That is not our model.
We believe instructors should be able to develop their own classes & brand, build their own local communities and deliver self-defence / personal safety / Krav Maga in a way that suits the people they are teaching.
At the same time, we do encourage instructors to continue developing their skills. Violence evolves, and good instructors continue learning. For that reason we provide optional advanced training events, specialist workshops and grading opportunities for those who wish to continue progressing within our system as previously described.
Participation in these events is entirely optional. Your instructor qualification remains valid regardless as our goal is not to control instructors, but to produce capable professionals who can confidently deliver responsible and effective self-defence training.

The accommodation options in London are too numerous to mention with a broad price range of hostels, hotels & Airbnb venues to choose from.
So, rather than list a number of properties here we would rather recommend you note the studio training postcode SW8 2LD and search online to satisfy your budget / accommodation expectations.
Courses are run on a quarterly basis so that should a participant be injured, or unable to take a particular section of a course due to work commitments or simply not up to speed with the course for example, then they may re-attend another later phase for free (up to re-attending a maximum of 2 courses) at a later date.
The course can also be taken as a private training option if the dates shown do not work with your diary, on a private individual or small group basis (up to 4 persons). Day 1. Here’s Where Your Training Begins..
After registration and course orientation we start you off on some basic self defence techniques and cover some self defence theory. The first day is about easing you in and getting to know each other – so nothing too stressful on this day.

Days 3 & 4. Basic Krav Maga Syllabus, Techniques & Teaching Practice, Testing, Debrief & Certification…
After recapping day 2, you will now start practising & teaching the “defender” syllabus to either ourselves or attending students and will be able to understand & extol the differences between sport orientated martial arts & self defence and learn to draw up lesson plans, make adaptations to techniques and break techniques down for ease of assimilation before being taught the teaching, practical execution and physical training methodology that is unique to the British Academy of Krav Maga before finally (after some tests) receive your certificate and advice in regards to setting up, marketing and promoting your own course or courses going forward.
