John is the founder of The British Academy of Krav Maga having started his Krav Maga journey back in 1999 when he was just 30 odd years old.
Previous to this he had practised Boxing, Kick Boxing and Muay Thai Kick Boxing but started Krav Maga as he was looking for a system that had more real life applications.
Years later, John is still a competitive martial artist, competing and medaling in Masters Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and when not doing this, he also has a passion for surfing, kitesurfing, paddle boarding and his latest water sport, wing foiling.
On occasion John also like’s to go off grid by simply packing his rucksack and walking the mountains or woods and living off the land when and where possible.
Krav Maga Grade: Black Belt 1st Dan

Stephen is a co-partner with John at the British Academy of Krav Maga & started his journey in 2014 when he was a student at BAKM studying under John.
He has always had a passion for martial arts, starting at the age of 17. He started with Taekwondo, whilst also practicing Boxing & Muay Thai.
John saw Stephen’s natural talent and teaching prowess and invited him to become a partner in 2017. In 2020 Stephen achieved his black belt in Krav Maga whilst also commencing study in Silat.
Stephen believe’s that you must learn all the basics and fundamentals of any martial art that you choose, but you should also not restrict yourself. If you can combine multiple disciplines to enhance your skills or techniques, it’s never a bad idea.
Stephen always look’s to incorporate alternatives techniques when teaching to allow the student to decide what works best for them to enable learning and understanding the role that they may have in a conflict.
In his spare time Stephen tries to escape the city whilst also enjoying his own cooking on occasion.
